Black Hollow: planning a hunt with friends

Heading into the Hollow together? A short guide to choosing the right version and setting a simple plan for your next co-op session.

Approved development gameplay from the official Steam gallery. This earlier capture illustrates the setting, not a multiplayer session or the latest interface.

Start with the right version

Black Hollow’s full game supports solo play and up to four-player online co-op. If you are planning to hunt with friends, that is the version to look for. The free demo is single-player and does not include online co-op.

The demo is still a way to try the staff, flasks and plague-powered abilities on your own before deciding whether the game suits you. Its visuals, balance and upgrade costs may differ from the full game.

Agree on one thing to try

Before a co-op session, ask everyone what they want from the next hunt. Is someone learning the controls? Does someone want to explore a particular hunting ground? A shared aim gives you an easy place to start.

Keep your communication simple as you play. Say when you are moving, point out where the infected are gathering, and give a new player time to read their choices. These are suggestions for playing together, rather than rules for a particular build.

Compare notes afterward

After the hunt, pick one moment to talk about. What worked well together, and what would you try differently next time? A specific example is useful both for your next session and for feedback you want to share with me.

Black Hollow is available on Steam. Whether you play alone or bring friends, thank you for spending time in the Hollow.
